The Arts Society Gainsborough and District meet at 1.45pm in the Trinity Arts Centre, Gainsborough (01427 676655) on the first Thursday of the month (except January, July and August). January was the start of a new year and a new decade. Did we manage to keep the new year’s resolutions we made?
A date for the diary is St Barnabas Hospice’s Bring a Gift Coffee Morning which is being held on Thursday 6th February from 10.00am to 12.00pm at their Gainsborough Hospice, Front Street, Morton. Please take along unwanted gifts and enjoy cake and refreshments whilst raising funds for St Barnabas Hospice. The organisers would really love to see you. read more

Town Hall Live Kirton–in–Lindsey has just one concert in February, when renowned Nashville songwriter Amy Speace headlines on Friday 14th. Amy is a timeless singer and songwriter, and is often compared to Mary Chapin Carpenter and Gretchen Peters. Her songs hang together like a short story collection, united by a common vantage point and predicaments. read more

Mayflower 400 Heritage Mornings

Gainsborough United Reformed Church will be open for heritage mornings from 10.00am to 11.30am on Thursdays 6th and 20th February. Visitors can find out more about the Mayflower Pilgrims and the history surrounding the building of the church in the Mayflower Room, recently installed by CreateInn of Retford. They have a lot of regular activities on offer from active circuits and Pilates to yoga, tai chi and seated exercise. If moving your body isn’t your thing then there are various clubs and workshops which may suit better. If you (say it quietly!) ‘over-indulged’ a little over the festive season then Slimming World meets on a Friday morning. read more

Dr Jonathan Foyle returns to talk to the Friends of Gainsborough Old Hall on Thursday 6th February. His talk is entitled ‘Beverley Minster: A Fresh Look at its Ancient Symbolism’. Alan Turing is reputed to have decoded the German cyphers and Jonathan is to decode the symbolism of this iconic building over 500 years since the Reformation. Jonathan is currently writing a book on Beverley Minster. read more

RSPCA Doncaster and Rotherham

Roxy is a 10-year-old Boxer cross, and she has been at the RSPCA South Yorkshire Animal Centre for 157 days. Roxy is a sweet girl who loves to be around humans; she likes a good run playing with tennis balls. The team promoted Roxy on social media platforms but it seemed that for no good reason Roxy would be spending Christmas at the centre. read more
