North Notts Lions

North Notts Lions not only provide support to people within their own immediate community, but also support overseas projects. Recently the club have provided two water purifiers to the Purwanchal school for students with sight disability in the town of Dharan, East Nepal. Using the assistance of the Pahar Trust Nepal, who provided free installation with the aid of ex-Gurkha soldiers, North Notts Lions were able to purchase two water purifiers for the Nepalese school. read more

The Kirton in Lindsey Amateur Gardeners (KLAGs) 2020 season of meetings continues on Wednesday 18th March at 7.30pm, in the Town Hall, Market Place, Kirton in Lindsey. The talk this time is ‘Gardening 40 years ago’ and will be given by John Moss. This subject ties in with KLAGs celebrating its 40th year since being formed in 1980. read more

The Gainsborough Area Group of The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trusts’ next meeting is on Wednesday 18th March at 7.30pm. Paul Learoyd, who is chief executive of the Trust, is visiting to tell the group about ‘Swinn Wood, Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust’s newest old wood to be followed by an update on the Trust’s recent work’. read more

In the middle of last year the very existence of Gainsborough Snappers was threatened when their long term tutor, leader and inspiration, Alan Townsend, sadly passed away. His particular combination of skills, experience and willingness to devote his time and energy voluntarily to helping members thrive as photographers was never going to be found again in one person. read more

North and South Wheatley Local History Group

A late change of speaker did nothing to detract from the enjoyment of their first meeting of 2020 for Wheatley Local History Group. Ann Featherstone travelled from Derbyshire to entertain members with her talk entitled ‘The Victorian Fair — Freaks and Fisticuffs’ covering the history of ‘fairs’ and the side shows with their mix of showmen. Her initial interest in the subject grew out her childhood adventures at her ‘home’ fair and looking forward to the annual Ilkeston Fair. read more

Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club

The December meeting of Beckingham Gardeners’ Club was a great success, with members and visitors making a Christmas table decoration under the expert tuition of Sheila Clark from Walkeringham. Members had gathered different types of foliage from their gardens and turned them into beautiful, unique, arrangements. read more
