Remembrance at Walkeringham Primary School

Like so many events and days of celebration and remembrance this year, the Poppy Appeal had to adapt to COVID-19. Unfortunately, thousands of poppy collectors were unable to sell poppies locally in our supermarkets, schools and shopping centres and many fundraising events had to be cancelled. read more

Noble Foods gives back to local community this Christmas

Noble Foods, the UK’s number one supplier of free range eggs, is spreading the festive cheer this Christmas through a series of heartfelt initiatives for residents local to its Gainsborough site. After a challenging year for many, Christmas is bound to feel different in light of government guidance and restrictions still in place. As a result, the team at Noble Foods wanted to give back to its local community, donating hampers and food to those who may need it most. read more

Beckingham Bowls Club

Beckingham Bowls Club

Beckingham Bowls Club have been selected to take part in the Co-op Local Community Fund and are looking for support to raise much needed funds after a difficult year restricted by the pandemic. The club is one of three causes in our community which Co-op members can select to support between now and 23rd October 2021. read more

Wheatley Family & Local History Society

North and South Wheatley Local History Group

Sadly, the changes to local restrictions and then the national lockdown meant both of North and South Wheatley Family and Local History Society’s meetings scheduled for November had to be cancelled. They do not normally have a society meeting in December and this year is no different in that respect. read more

RSPCA Doncaster and Rotherham

Lockdown is devastating for everyone, including the local RSPCA Animal Centre, but caring for animals cannot stop. Despite losing 95% of income in the first lockdown, the team still has animals of all shapes and sizes to look after.
One such case is Tommy, rescued in a terrible state by RSPCA inspectors. read more

Misterton author completes children’s book in lockdown

When the country went into lockdown in March, it would have been easy for Ric Hart to sink into depression. He had lost his wife, Jade, just after the birth of their son, Hugo, in 2018. Instead, he spent the time writing a book for Hugo – and other young children – about bereavement. read more

Out of sight but not out of mind…

Voluntary Centre Services

Writing this just as our second lockdown has started is a bit surreal – yes, we had a sense it was coming but it doesn’t make it any easier. Over the last few months the Voluntary Centre Services team have been working to support groups to get back up and running, and we have seen more people get involved in volunteering albeit in a Covid safe way, but now it feels as though we have taken a bit of a step backwards. read more

Lea WI members’ surprise

Lea WI members recently received a surprise gift when their president, Jackie Summers, and secretary, Marjorie West, delivered a delicious mini strawberry cream tea with a personal thank you note. The thank you was for members patiently accepting the fact that there have been no meetings for them to attend during these difficult times. read more

Nev Hethershaw, a member of Beckingham Bowls Club since the 1990s, sadly passed away on 4th November. He had recently celebrated his 94th birthday and contributed a great deal to the club both on and off the green, and also contributed greatly to village life in general. read more
