At the March meeting Chris du Feu gave an entertaining illustrated talk on ‘Euring — What is it?’. He outlined the evolution and integration of the diverse European bird ringing schemes. This is Euring and it is an invaluable tool for informing, assessing and monitoring the often rapid and dramatic population and distribution changes of bird species in Europe. Chris had asked attendees to bring slugs with them for him to identify. Within 24 hours, his detailed identification report arrived along with comments on the 29 slugs of the 14 different species collected. He will submit the records to the National Database Network to be included in NBN atlas ( distribution maps. Chris’s underlying message was that accurate and precise recording is essential to our understanding of the natural world. Thank you, Chris, for a fascinating evening.
