Retford U3A

by | 18 December 2019 | Education and Learning, U3A

Retford U3A has been running now for eight years. There are around 550 members and 50 interest groups. There is a group meeting, held once a month, at the Well Baptist Church, Retford, on the fourth Thursday of the month.
At their General Meeting on 27th September the guest speaker is seriously not to be missed. Mike Storr is giving a talk entitled ‘Masters of Mirth’. This covers the history of British Music Halls, and some of the great comedians who walked the famous boards. Stanley Holloway, Rob Wilton and Bernard Miles are just three of the artists who will be covered.
Two of the most popular interest groups feature in the article this month — the Patchwork and Quilting Group and the Craft Group.

Patchwork and Quilting is so popular now, the group has to meet twice a month on the first and third Wednesdays, and to cover increased interest now also meet every other Saturday. All Wednesday meetings are in the morning, and the Saturday from 10.00am to 4.00pm. The venue is the Hallcroft Community Centre, off Randall Way.
The Craft Group also meet twice a month on the second and fourth Thursday mornings from 9.30am. The group meet at the Grove Street Methodist Church Hall. Both groups welcome new members and information and contact details are on the Retford U3A website.

At the last General Meeting both the chairman and secretary announced they were not going to stand next year for membership of the committee. As Retford U3A needs both posts filled to remain in existence, can you start thinking about possible nominees for both posts? If you are interested in either position contact chairman Chris Clifford.
The ethos of the U3A, which stands for The University of the Third Age, is that members keep themselves active in body and mind, learning from each other, with shared experiences. If you want to know more about the Retford U3A, have a look at the comprehensive website, or contact the Membership Secretary, Paul Bacon at membership@retford-u3a.org.uk.
