Bonfire Radicals, a ‘Live & Local’ show at the Parish Hall, Church Lane in Ordsall lights up on Sunday 28th November at 7.30pm. The band’s write-up offers as many firecrackers as the bonfires earlier in the month, with Rock Society describing them as “one of the most exciting and eclectic musical groups I have heard for a very long time”.
Birmingham-based Bonfire Radicals have emerged from the folk / world scene with a fresh approach to traditional tunes and a host of creative original material. They weave together raucous woodwind, delicate vocals, progressive violin, hard-hitting bass, psychedelic electric guitar and percussive beats. Known for their highly-spirited stage presence, the Bonfire Radicals’ own enthusiasm for their music is undeniable. With six in the band – four of them on vocals – they play between them clarinet, kaval (a Balkan type of recorder), flute, violin, five-string viola, guitar and drums.
They should certainly let off a few rockets, so if you like to have your senses roused do ask about tickets from Peter and Shirley on 01777 706433 or 07951 253343. The show price of £13.50 per adult (under 18s £8.00) includes the optional hot food in the interval.
This is the first ‘Live & Local’ show in the area to be staged since the start of the pandemic. To keep people safe numbers were reduced at the first private music show in the hall last month, which the audience very much enjoyed.
‘Live & Local’ is a subsidised scheme with professional performers supported by local councils, the Arts Council and local volunteers. In Ordsall it has been running for over 20 years.
