If you have an interest in the arts and would like to learn more, join The Arts Society Dukeries, who invite you to one of their meetings. They have monthly lecture meetings, special interest days and trips out to places of interest and a holiday for members.
The Wednesday 1st May lecture, organised by The Arts Society Dukeries will be by Matthew Williamson and will be called ‘A Royal Rescue: Dumfries House saved and revealed’. Dumfries House in Ayrshire was acquired for the nation following a last-minute rescue in 2007, largely through the involvement of HRH the Prince of Wales. The house is a forgotten Georgian gem, designed by Adam and furnished by Chippendale and others.
Their Wednesday 5th June lecture by Mary Yule is called ‘A view from the Plinth: a review of contemporary public sculpture’. The lecture offers a light-hearted but critical review of public sculpture today.
The society meets at the Civic Centre, Long Lane, Carlton-in-Lindrick S81 9AP. Coffee is served from 10.00am and the monthly lecture is from 11.00am to 12.00pm approximately. There is free car parking. For further details please call Suzanne on 01909 290488 or Gill on 01909 540506 or visit www.theartsociety.co.uk/dukeries.
