Worksop Pride is a small group of volunteers who work throughout the year to organise the annual free event to show solidarity with the LGBT+ community. The Worksop Pride Team hope, that in its third-year, the event will be bigger and better. It will take place on Saturday 7th July on the Old Market Square in Worksop from 12.00pm.
There will be some amazing acts performing. Set to headline the event are BBC’s ‘All Together Now’ finalists ‘The Sundaes’ and X Factor’s Lloyd Daniels will also be appearing. Local acts Little Drama Group, Katie Greaves and Katie Lucas are amongst the line-up. Award winning drag act Funky Beavers and fabulous original artists Smashby and Stevie Moore will also be there to entertain you. Tribute acts ‘In the Mix,’ ‘Lopez Live’ and ‘Amazing Faith’ are as close as you can get to the real thing and will be adding to the performance programme.
The organisers have some new additions to help them with their mission of creating a family fun environment, so for the first time there will be funfair rides and lots more activities for younger children, including horse riding.
A Pride Parade will start at 11.00am from Worksop Train Station which the community can get involved in, with lots of flags flying and whistle blowing. There will also be an after-show party where tickets are available at the main event.
This year the theme is ‘#BeYourself #BeIncluded #BeProud’, with the hope that this will help to raise awareness of important issues.
Leader of Bassetlaw District Council, Councillor Simon Greaves, said: “I am proud to support Worksop Pride and it gives me real pleasure to see how the event is growing year on year, it’s a real testament to the vision and commitment of Crystal and her team. The event is a celebration of LGBT+ life, of love and inclusivity. Sadly, some LGBT+ people do still face prejudice on a daily basis, Worksop Pride gives us another opportunity to show our support for the ongoing fight for true equality.”
