Established Retford guitarist, song writer and guitar tutor John Berry has just released his second album, entitled ‘Standing on the Rock’. This remarkable CD spans a 30-year period of John’s musical career.
John says: “From the first song I wrote, ‘Who do you follow’ in 1988, to the last song I wrote just recently, ‘Heal our Land’, the time covers 30 years — amazing how time flies. Musically the album is predominantly rock and features heavy rock, blues rock and progressive rock. However, there is also variety on the album, with beautiful melodic ballads, rhythm and blues, funk and anthems. There is even one reggae style number on there and something a little different for the closing track. We have some live in-concert material on the album, which for the most part was recorded live at the Retford Town Hall.”
John, a professional guitarist who has also been teaching Bassetlaw to play the guitar for 16 years and is a member of the Oasis Community Church, Ordsall, Retford, added: “There is no set price on the album as I did not set out to make this CD as a money-making objective. The album is really a double album. It has taken an enormous amount of time and work to produce and at quite considerable cost. As far as I’m concerned people can have it for free. However, donations towards the costings are always welcome.”
