Is This Art? New exhibition at Retford Arts Hub

Have you visited the new gallery at Retford Arts Hub? If not, it is highly recommended. It’s a great place to see fabulous art by local artists and artisans, relax in a quiet and peaceful environment, and be inspired to create or purchase a unique piece of art.

The new exhibition, ‘Is This Art?’, starts on Saturday 1st February and runs until Friday 14th March. It offers a chance to view innovative, creative, and possibly controversial ‘art’, which is expected to be different from the usual exhibitions on offer in Retford.

The idea for the exhibition was sparked by a visit to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition by some of the Hub’s volunteers, where they encountered amazing and diverse pieces of art.

Member artists and artisans were given free rein to approach their work in new ways, challenging the concepts of what art is, and encouraging discussion on art in its many forms through the pieces they chose to exhibit.

Artists and artisans interested in exhibiting their work must become a member ‘Friend’ of the Hub (£20.00 on joining plus a sales commission). This will enable them to participate in this and future exhibitions.

There are also excellent volunteer opportunities available at the Hub. Whether someone is new to the area, newly retired, looking for a new interest, or seeking to add to their CV, the Hub offers the chance to join their team. Volunteering provides the opportunity to make new friends, work alongside others, and support local artists and makers. For those interested in giving back to the community, this could be a perfect opportunity.

For further information on the exhibition, becoming a ‘friend’ or volunteering, individuals are encouraged to visit the Hub and have a chat at Retford Arts Hub, 11 Churchgate, Retford.
