Friends of Bassetlaw Museum

The Friends of Bassetlaw Museum will be kicking off their 2025 programme at 7.00pm on Tuesday 27th February when the Museum’s new Curator, Dr Mike Galer, will be talking about ‘The Derbyshire Yeomanry in the First World War’.

Dr Galer will explore the fortunes of this part-time territorial cavalry unit as it was mobilised and sent to Egypt, Gallipoli, and then to Bulgaria. He is a published author on this subject, as well as on the experiences of the people of Derby, their reactions to the outbreak of the Great War, how they lived through it, and how they transitioned back to peacetime life. There will be a small admission charge to hear Dr Galer.

The Friends would also like to remind the people of Bassetlaw that tours of the museum have now returned. These will take place on the first Friday of the month, with the first one at 2.00pm on Friday 7th February. They are free of charge, although a cash donation of £5.00 per person is suggested.

If you want to learn more or book a place, please email fobm.tours@gmail.com or call in to the museum, as places are limited.

If you would like to know more about The Friends and what they do, or if you would like to join them, please email fobm.membership@gmail.com. Membership application forms can also be found on their Facebook page or via the home page of the Bassetlaw Museum website.
