Children at Kneesall Church of England Primary School are encouraging friends and family to take part in an environmentally friendly balloon race.
The event has been organised by the Friends of Kneesall Primary School, a group of parents and carers who raise money to provide opportunities and equipment for children at the school.
Chair of the Friends group, Stephanie Chapman, said: “The race will encourage the children to get involved in fundraising whilst having fun designing their balloons and tracking them on Google Earth.
“The balloons might not be real, but they will be battling the real weather conditions on the day. The fact there will be no litter or plastic waste left behind will also give the children an opportunity to think about how we can all help reduce our impact on the environment.”
The race will launch from Venice on 14th February and take place over seven days. Anyone can buy and customise a balloon and track its progress as it soars over the rooftops of Venice.
Prizes for the furthest travelling balloons include £100 cash, a day out for four people to Sundown Adventureland and an open trampoline session at i-Jump in Mansfield.
Balloons cost £3.00. If you’d like to help the children raise funds for their school, visit www.ecoracing.co/cause/friends-of-kneesall-c-of-e-primary-school-2691/.
