It’s beginning to look like people want to get out and about and re-join clubs once again.
This is good news but the question is where do you look and what kind of ‘gathering’ would you want to join. Many clubs have closed and some are difficult to find. Can you walk, park your car for free or get a bus taking you right outside the door to the weekly meeting?
Rotherham Probus may just have the answer with a resounding yes to all the above and so much more to offer to would be visitors and members. It has a more ambitious, bigger programme of weekly talks and local visits that is sure to stimulate thought, raise a laugh or two, and bring together like-minded men and women who want to socialise in a warm safe and friendly atmosphere.
Probus Communications Officer David Wadkin commented: “We have seen a modest increase in visitors who want to find out more about our meetings. In every case the visitors have enjoyed their free visits and gone onto become active members. The comments we have received include ‘we should have joined a lot sooner!’.”
Mercy Ships
One of the Club’s recent talks was presented by retired anaesthetist Alan Kershaw, who recalled his experience upon the ‘Mercy Ships’ that are literally ‘floating hospitals’ that deliver first world care to third world countries. The faith-based charity that operates these ships are the largest non-government hospital ships in the world. The Club’s visitors and members were astonished at the many success stories recalled by Alan including operations that ranged from neck tumours to general surgery to orthopaedics.
