The new programme of talks for the North Notts Association of National Trust Members starts on Wednesday 16th October with a talk by Barbara Beard on the subject of ‘The Sinking of the Empress of Ireland’, and will be followed in November by a talk from one of the group’s regular speakers, Mike Ogden, who subject is ‘A Palace by the River’.

To give you a flavour of the Association, last season’s season of talks finished in April with ‘Framework Knitters Museum and the history a framework knitting’ by Julian Ellis and the programme continued with visits to places of interest from May to September. These included Belvoir Castle, Yorkshire Air Museum and Breezy Knees Gardens, Quarry Bank, Shugborough Estate and a city trip to Birmingham.

Some National Trust members are not aware of the Association and the talks and visits which are held every month to help raise money for local National Trust properties such as Clumber, Mr Straw’s House and Southwell Workhouse.

Membership cost £30.00 single or £55.00 and covers seven talks and five outings (which are paid for separately). Alternatively, the basic subscription is £5.00 single or £7.00 per couple and payment for each individual talk attended is £6.00. National Trust members are welcome as visitors and pay the £6.00 per talk. Meetings are held at The Crossing Church on Newcastle Avenue in Worksop on the third Wednesday at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start.

Anyone wishing to join should contact any committee member, email nthnottsntassoc@gmail.com. Google the Association and an application form can be downloaded from their website, where you can also find news of talks and join their mailing list.
