A very warm welcome to Retford Cricket Club, the thriving and inclusive family sports club in the heart of Retford. Yes, that’s them, right next door to Morrisons!
Now 165 years old, the Club is run exclusively by fantastic member and family volunteers from all parts of Retford’s communities and competes in cricket leagues across the region. They hope to expand from their current two senior cricket teams, a Sunday team, women’s teams, and U9 – U15 junior teams.
Training is run at their ground during the season by club coaches and members. Winter indoor nets training starts shortly after Christmas each year. Outdoor training follows as the season opens with senior players training on a Thursday evening, and women’s and junior’s safeguarded training on a Friday evening. It’s great to blow off a bit of steam in the fresh air of their wide-open space after a week of school or work!
Training and playing doesn’t stop at club level. They’re very proud that some of their younger players have also been selected to represent counties on the ECB Player Pathways.
Volunteers also undertake a range of supporting roles. Umpiring gives you by far the best seat in the house! Scoring is largely automated but still needs a little bit of a human touch. There are plenty of training opportunities to learn what is required.
The bar is fully licenced with discounts for members and is open whenever the Club is open for cricket or training, often accompanied by the BBQ. These and the Club’s grounds can be hired for private events with or without the licenced bar.
