Fun Palace 2023
Kicking off a busy October at Worksop Library is the hugely successful Fun Palace on Saturday 7th October, 10.00am to 3.00pm. Go along and try out different arts, science, health, and heritage activities aimed at anyone of any age:
- Have fun crafting, making, and creating with Mr Straw’s House, Clumber Park, the Harley Gallery, Oasis Community Centre, From the Heart Charity, St John’s Spire Project and Now Church, Langold
- Play archaeologist for the day with Bassetlaw Museum and The University of Nottingham Museum
- Enjoy football games with Worksop Town Academy and fitness fun with ABL Health
- Discover stop-motion animation with Inspire Learning
Find your inner scientist with Ignite as you explore a hidden and mysterious world under the microscope! - Join local artists for drawing fun, as part of the 2023 Big Draw Festival
- Plus: badge making, giant games, puzzles, quizzes and more!
The Langold Dyscarr Community School Choir will be performing into lunchtime and the Dukeries Ukeries will round off the day with a rousing musical finale. Entry to Fun Palace is free and no booking is required.
Heritage Talk: Bolsover Castle
For this month’s heritage talk on Wednesday 18th October at 2.00pm to 3.00pm, Ian Morgan will tell the story of Bolsover Castle from its humble Norman beginnings to today’s beautiful shadow of its former glory.
The present 17th century castle stands as a monument to the Cavendish family who lavished money and love on their ‘Pleasure Palace’, leaving as their legacy a romantic ruin and stunning paintings within the ‘Little Castle’. Tickets for the talk cost £3.00. Places are limited so booking is highly advised.
Children’s Author Event – A Day in the Life of an Astronaut
On Tuesday 24th October at 10.30am, join award-winning author Mike Barfield for a fun and fact-filled journey from the edges of the solar system, back past all eight planets, and on towards our very own superstar, the sun.
Along the way you’ll meet some comical comets, speeding space probes and much, much more. A Day in the Life of an Astronaut will be packed with jokes, secret diaries, props and costumes in a show that is literally out of this world!
The show is suitable for children aged six to 11. Tickets are £3.00 for children; accompanying adults are free. Places are limited so booking is highly advised.
Jazz Steps Live
The Svarc Hanley Longhawn Trio will be playing on Tuesday 24th October at 7.30pm. Go along and enjoy contemporary catchy grooves – a combination of jazz, fusion, rock and blues – from a classic guitar-led organ trio featuring three of the North’s most respected musicians. Tickets are £12.00 and booking is highly advised.
