Volunteers at Gainsborough Heritage Association have been busy compiling newsletters, sending out membership renewals and organising the yearly raffle which helps brings in vital funding.
No doubt many of you will be still on the lookout for presents for that hard to buy for person in your life, so why not consider gifting them a year’s membership to Gainsborough Heritage Centre for just £15.00? This allows them to visit the Centre as many times as they want during the 12-month period. They will be filled with nostalgia as they spend time browsing the vast collection of folders in the research room, which is full of information on buildings, workplaces, schools, clubs and much more.
The Centre also has a wonderful range of books for sale, many by local authors: ‘The Gainsborough War Stories’ by the late Peter Bradshaw, local well-respected teacher and historian; ‘Nursing Midwife and Me’ and ‘Reminiscences’, by the late Nurse Phyllis Peart; and ‘Flying Over an Olive Grove’, the story of football hero Fred Spiksley, by Clive and Ralph Nicholson and Mark Metcalf.
Postcards from the past is a book filled with photos of old Gainsborough by Susan and Sara Edlington, and there’s not only books but DVDs of Old Gainsborough.
Entrance to the museum is just £3.00, with children free if accompanied by an adult – and it costs nothing to visit the café and shop! The Centre is charity based and relies heavily on your support, so please pay a visit. All involved in the Centre would like to wish you a very merry Christmas.
