Rotary Club of Retford

One charity the Rotary Club of Retford has recently raised money for is the Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF). This charity gives support to families and children needing lifesaving heart treatments.

The Matthews family from Retford, whose son Kit underwent heart transplant surgery at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle last year, visited to tell members first-hand about all the vital work that CHUF does, and how it benefits families such as theirs.
During 2022 the club has already donated just over £800 to this very worthy cause, with further funds on their way from the generous donations of a ‘pick your own’ visit to an orchard.

During the spring and summer terms, local Rotakids schools were challenged to consider the impact of litter on the planet, and to raise awareness through posters, presentations in assemblies and litter picks. Four RotaKids schools produced some fantastic artwork and prizes were awarded to some of the most effective entries.

First prize was awarded to Carr Hill Primary School, with second and third prize going to Ranskill Primary School. Five runners up were also chosen from Bracken Lane Primary Academy, Carr Hill Primary School, Ranskill Primary School and Rampton Primary School.

The children’s work is displayed in Bassetlaw Museum Educational Room, with the top three winners also being on display in Retford Library.

The parish of West Markham and surrounding villages have celebrated the installation of a new wooden floor in their 12th century church, benefiting the community by providing a safe venue to meet. The Tuxford Legacy Committee of the Club were able to support this project with a donation.

Tickets are still available for the October Retford Rotary Music Festival events from www.thelittleboxoffice.com/rotaryclubofretford or call Rotarian Mike Davis on 07833 931314.

On 17th November a Victorian Christmas Fayre will be held at Ye Olde Bell Hotel, Barnby Moor in aid of Bassetlaw Hospice, the NSPCC and local Rotary supported charities. If you are interested in a stall at this event please contact rotariandanby@gmail.com as there are still a few spaces available.

Save the date for the first ever Retford Rotary Family Santa Run which will take place on the morning of Sunday 11th December, starting and finishing from Retford Market Square. Watch out for further details!

And finally, if you are a local charity, community or voluntary organisation seeking assistance for a project or a good cause, the Rotary Club of Retford may be able to help you. There are funds available for donation to worthy causes. Please contact secretary@retfordrotary.org for a Grant Application Form.
