Art lovers will certainly not want to miss Gainsborough Heritage Centre’s current display: an excellent collection of Karl Wood prints and paintings.
Karl Wood lived in Gainsborough for many years and taught art at the local grammar school. He was renowned for sketches and paintings of windmills and of old Gainsborough.
The Heritage Centre is situated in the Old Post Office on North Street – a little gem in the middle of town packed with nostalgia. The moment you walk through the door you are transported back in time. Walk down the old street, pop your head in the local shops, soak up the atmosphere of the typical 40s to 50s living room, enjoy the changing exhibition room, take in a variety of displays and visit the gift shop.
The Centre’s vast archives are packed with information about local businesses, schools and streets, and there is a room where you can access records and view newspaper clippings. These are all put together by a dedicated team of volunteers who are always on hand should you have a query.
Why not take a visit and see for yourself? The Centre is disability-friendly with a lift to all floors. Group bookings are most welcome; please contact the centre for more information. Find more details on www.gainsboroughheritage.com.
