The Royal British Legion

by | 7 August 2021 | Community Event, Heritage, Retford

As previously reported the Retford and district branch of The Royal British Legion is 100 years old this year. The initial meeting and election of the committee took place in October 1921.
A celebratory event is being arranged to mark this achievement. It is to be held on Saturday 21st August between 2.00pm and 4.00pm in the gardens of Bassetlaw Museum. Light refreshments will be served and it is hoped that a pleasant afternoon of memories and reflection will be enjoyed in the beautiful surroundings of the Museum.
As a lasting record of the event, a tree will be planted in the Museum garden on the same day. This will be one of three trees that are planned within the branch area.
To give the organisers an idea of the numbers attending please call either Ann Hickman on 01777 818993 or Judith Goodall on 01777 707152.
As with all events at the moment, it will be planned to comply with any Government guidance that applies at the time.
The relevance of the work of The Royal British Legion remains the same today as it did when it was set up in 1921. For further information check the website, www.britishlegion.org.uk, or if you require help or advice call 0808 802 8080.
