Sheffield ME and Fibromyalgia Group

by | 27 December 2020 | Rotherham, Support Group

Since 2003, the Sheffield ME and Fibromyalgia Group has been supporting people with ME / CFS and fibromyalgia, and those who care for people with these illnesses, across South Yorkshire and North East Derbyshire. They have also recently opened their services to people experiencing chronic fatigue as a result of long / post Covid and always welcome new members.

What are ME / CFS and fibromyalgia?
Myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), also known as chronic fatigue syndrome, and fibromyalgia are long-term, chronic illnesses which often make it very hard for people to manage their lives on a daily basis and to engage in social life. A lack of public understanding of these conditions can make it difficult for people to access the support they need, and can make people feel alone and isolated.

What support does the group offer?

  • They provide welfare benefits and social care advocacy.
  • They run social and wellbeing activities, currently taking place online, including quizzes, craft sessions and mindfulness.
  • They share information about these conditions with the aim of raising public awareness and enabling members to manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life. They’ve hosted a wide range of expert speakers and their talks are available to re-watch on the group’s website.
  • They build community! Their members provide valuable mutual support by sharing their tips and experiences.
