Highly strung fundraiser

Drop by and join fundraisers and listen to ukulele band Highly Strung at Dukeries Garden Centre on Saturday 1st December. They will be playing from 12.30pm to 2.00pm and money will be collected for the Weston Park Cancer Hospital Charity. read more

Aladdin flies by carpet to The Acorn!

The stage is set for a genie-us pantomime at Worksop’s Acorn Theatre this December, telling the magical, mystical tale of ‘Aladdin’. The fun-filled family show takes us to Old Peking, where poor peasant boy Aladdin finds fame and fortune, with the help of a magic lamp and a genius genie. read more

Carlton Christmas Tree Festival

Carlton in Lindrick Methodist Church

Kingston Park Academy choir will open the Christmas Tree Festival, at Carlton-in-Lindrick Methodist Church and Centre at 2.15pm, on Friday 7th December, with carols and Christmas songs. It will be open until 4.00pm. Trees will be decorated by schools, Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Boys’ Brigade and other local groups in the community such as the WI and the library. read more

Thoresby Colliery Band present Christmas in Brass — a sparkling seasonal programme from our local championship section brass band — at The Crossing Church and Centre on Saturday 1st December. The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £10.00 for adults and £4.00 for under 16s. Open invitation evening at Retford Bridge Club

Retford Bridge Club

Bridge players of all levels of experience are invited to Retford Bridge Club on Tuesday 27th November, for a relaxed game of duplicate bridge. A limited number of hands will be played and there will be a coffee break of about 15 minutes. No partner is required as one will be found on the evening if you come alone. If you play with the U3A on Monday afternoons, then you are more than welcome to come and experience duplicate bridge. read more

St Mary’s Church, Norton Cuckney are holding their annual Christmas Tree Festival and Christmas Market on Saturday 8th December, from 11.00am to 4.00pm. There will be stalls selling a wide variety of crafts and produce. It is hoped that there will be even more trees on display this year so if you would like to provide and decorate a tree please get in touch. read more

Marathon run in aid of MS Society

Emma McHale, 29, will be taking on her first London Marathon and her first ever marathon on 28th April 2019, to raise funds for the MS Society, in memory of her mother. In February 2018, loving mother, dedicated teacher and devoted voluntary swimming teacher Sheila McHale, of Bircotes, passed away of complications related to Multiple Sclerosis. read more
