The Dukeries Community Workshop

The Dukeries Community Workshop is a fully equipped workshop run by local volunteers for their community, offering supervised and tutored sessions in the following crafts:

  • Woodcarving
    Monday 9.00am to 2.00pm
    Tuesday 7.00pm to 9.00pm
  • Walking stick making
    Friday 9.00am to 12.30pm
  • General woodwork, including wood turning
    Tuesdays 9.00am to 3.00pm
    Thursdays 9.00am to 12.30pm
    Supervised sessions to work on individual projects, anything from boxes to bug houses, bird boxes, toys, pens, furniture and upholstery.
  • Pyrography, creative wood burning
    Tuesday 7.00pm to 9.00pm (tutored session)
    Please arrange in advance as not always possible.
    Equipment is also available anytime.
  • Stained glass
    Wednesday 1.00pm to 3.00pm (tutored session)
  • Kiln fused glass
    Friday 12.30pm to 3.00pm (tutored session)
    From coasters to bowls, sculptures and jewellery.

Seasonal crafts and short courses are also offered during the year. The society currently work with Dukeries Academy pupils on Wednesday mornings and with Mind on Thursday afternoons and are not open to the general public without prior arrangement.

Each session is £5.00 to attend and includes the tools and tuition and materials used are recharged at cost. In cases of financial hardship, charges can be waived. Tea and coffee making facilities are available and the sessions are suitable for all skill levels and abilities.
