Shireoaks WI members helped out at the newly refurbished Village Hall Open Day and Church Dedication day on 6th and 7th April, when people could see the wonderful transformation for themselves, and the WI ladies laid on the refreshments after the service in St Luke’s Church. The April meeting was the group’s annual meeting when a new committee was elected and the business of the day was dealt with by reports from the treasurer, the trustees and the president’s address. One member had attended the Spring Council meeting as a delegate and she gave a report.
This was followed by a Quiz and a Beetle Drive. Names were taken for teams to enter into the annual WI Federation Quiz in July, at which the group usually fail abysmally, but then who knows, they might one day win through sheer perseverance! Also in April, they had their long awaited outing to the Lyceum in Sheffield to see the performance of Calendar Girls which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and the cast enjoyed a standing ovation at the end.
A different outing was made by some members to Kwik Fit, where they learnt the basic maintenance skills for their cars amidst much hilarity but they all agreed they did learn something at the end of it and the group’s secretary was really thrilled to have actually dipped her oil and then got the right oil to top it up! Successful outcome.
Plans for future events were discussed including, of course, their Annual Duck Race on Sunday 23rd June (volunteers, donations and stall holders still required), an outing to York, and an Afternoon Tea. Details of future programmes can be found on the Shireoaks WI Facebook page and new programmes will be available to members at the next meeting.
The group are always looking for more ladies to join them and if you are interested then please go along to one of their meetings on the third Thursday of each month (not in August) and see if you would like to join them. You can follow them on Facebook or contact Dawn on 07817 681778 or Diana on 01909 472181.
