Whitwell and District WI

7th February 2019
Whitwell and District WI

At the January meeting of Whitwell WI, the speaker was Jack Hurry, who talked about his entry to the police force after he left the RAF until retirement. They heard lots of funny stories including, when in his senior position, he was asked by the Queen if she could try out the women’s holding cells in the new courthouse.

The group also discussed their summer outings for 2019 — trips to Stratford upon Avon in August and The Black Country Museum in June. Their trip to see Calendar Girls in Sheffield in April is full.

Their next meeting is on 11th February at 7.00pm, when they have a talk by John Lowther about the Chesterfield Canal. If you would like to go along to Whitwell Community Centre, you will have a warm welcome. You can contact the secretary Zoe on 01909 721559 or visit the website for more details.
