Dukeries Third Age Group

The Dukeries Third Age Group’s (U3A) meetings are held on the third Monday of every month at 1.00pm, in the Jubilee Hall, Wellow Road, Ollerton. The September meeting will take place on Monday 16th September and the speaker will be Barbara Meyer who will give a talk on ‘Big Cat Photography’. read more

Have a ripe old time at East Markham Apple Day

East Markham Apple Day

This year’s Apple Day at East Markham, will be on Sunday 6th October, from 10.00am to 4.00pm and it’s the 21st annual event! The celebration will last all day, in and around the village hall and adjacent Heritage Orchard. The orchard has over 300 varieties of apples, and was launched in 1998 by celebrity gardeners Jon Stirland and Martin Fish. read more

The Arts Society Dukeries

The Arts Society Dukeries’ latest Trail of Discovery is at St Wilfrid’s Church in Scrooby, North Nottinghamshire.
The village may be small, but it is renowned, especially in the USA, for being the home of William Brewster, the Pilgrim Father. He sailed on the Mayflower in 1620 and founded the Plymouth Colony in New England, but in the early years of the 17th century Brewster’s home, Scrooby Manor House, became the meeting place for the separatist church. read more

The Rotary Club of Sherwood Forest’s collection of lightly used bras and new pants for Africa continues to go well. They are everyday items to us all and it is hard to understand the huge difference they can make to women in countries where simply having underwear can protect you from unpleasant incidents and unwanted attention. read more

North Notts Association of National Trust Members

The North Notts Association of National Trust Members were given a real treat when they visited The Lincolnshire Aviation Centre in East Kirby, as part of their monthly outing and then had free rein to look around Boston for a couple of hours. They arrived after an uneventful journey with good weather and all dispersed to look at the many attractions on view all relating to the RAF Bomber command from the last war. read more

It is surprising how few local people know that there is a sailing club just south of Worksop.
In 1947 the late Duke of Portland and his friends established the club, which uses the Great Lake, in the grounds of Welbeck Estate. read more

Voglia d’Italia

Voglia d’Italia (the Italian Society for South Yorks and North Notts) presents ‘Sardinia: Nuragic Culture and Monuments’. Simon Tomson, archaeologist and popular lecturer, returns to give his illustrated talk about the unique island culture of the late Bronze Age in Sardinia on Friday 6th September, at 7.30pm, Tickhill Pavilion, Tithes Lane, Tickhill, DN11 9QN. read more

Library events for Heritage Open Days 2019

Inspire Nottinghamshire Libraries

2019 is the 25th anniversary of Heritage Open Days and this year’s national festival will run for 10 consecutive days from Friday 13th to Sunday 22nd September. During this time, there will be special Heritage Open Day events in Inspire Libraries, including Retford and Worksop Library. read more

Egmanton Craft and Produce Show

The 21st Egmanton Craft and Produce Show takes place in Egmanton Village Hall on Saturday 7th September. There is to be a new scarecrow competition to be staged at the hall. Bassetlaw Cardiac Support Group

At Support Group’s meeting at Bassetlaw Hospital on Friday 2nd August, the Biometric Forensic speaker, explained: “There will never be another you”. He was interesting, witty, engaging and amusing. Of course, no-one else has our DNA, height, gender, colour, fingerprint, and exact measurements. He challenged members’ cognitive awareness in many ways and kept the attention for everyone — with all wanting more. read more
