Co-op Good Causes

Dukeries Community Workshop

The Dukeries Community Workshop is very grateful to have been one of the Co-op Good Causes over the past 12 months. It has benefited from the members share of spending in both Co-op Food Store in Edwinstowe and Co-op Funeral Care in New Ollerton. Adam Smith, manager at Edwinstowe, presented a cheque for £4,158.52 to volunteers and workshop users. read more

Edwinstowe remembers WWI

Royal British Legion Edwinstowe Branch

2018 was a particularly significant year of remembrance, not least because it is the centenary year commemorating the end of the Great War of 1914 to 1918. The Edwinstowe remembrance parade and service took place on Sunday 11th November, with a large contingent forming and marching to St Mary’s church for a special and poignant service conducted by Reverend Ian Webb. read more

Charity walkers’ next challenge

John Eastwood Hospice

Over the past 14 years, Brian Hawkins along with his walking partner Michael Dickinson have walked over 50,000 miles (with training and walks) and so far have raised over £310,000. Brian started these epic walks to say thank you and give something back to the John Eastwood Hospice, where his wife was cared for. read more

Dukeries Community Workshop

For the second time, the Dukeries Community Workshop participated in the Thoresby Winterfest event to raise much needed funds to help keep the centre, based at the Dukeries Complex, open. In addition to the sale of hand-crafted goods made at the workshop, it also had a tombola stall and provided Santa for the little ones. read more

Lynds Close Luncheon Club

Lynds Close Luncheon Club

On Thursday 1st November the diners of Lynd’s Close sat down to celebrate the fifth birthday of the Luncheon Club. From small beginnings with only a few diners, the volunteers now regularly cook and serve a three-course meal to 40 diners. read more

Knit and Natter Group

Knit and Natter Group

You are invited to join knitters on the first Tuesday of every month at 2.30pm at their friendly Knit and Natter Group. This is held at the Methodist Church, Forest Road, Ollerton. Members knit and crochet items for charity and the local community. Tea and biscuits are provided. You can also do your own knitting and crochet. Wool and needles are provided if needed. read more

A not so peaceful winter

In colder parts of the world, many species spend the winter in hibernation, lowering their body temperature and reducing their heart rate and breathing, so they use up less energy. Here in the UK our relatively mild climate means that very few species actually use this technique and most creatures will be active all winter. read more
