The Dukeries Singers

I would like to open my ‘catch-up’ with an appeal — The Dukeries Singers are looking for a new musical director.
For the past three and a half most enjoyable years the choir has benefitted from the wonderful direction of Mr Ashley Williams. Under his enthusiastic leadership we have enjoyed singing a wide repertoire of music. However, he has decided to step down as musical director, to take effect from after the Christmas period. read more

North and South Wheatley

Community Focus

North and South Wheatley were busy last month. A banner competition was run by North and South Wheatley Parish Council, for school children to design a banner to encourage people to drive safely and park courteously in their village. The winning design was from Scarlett and Grace.  A new MUGA was installed on North Wheatley playing field. This equipment was organised by the Parish Council after a generous grant from TARMAC. read more

Bassetlaw Twinning Association (BTA) is a self-funding organisation that arranges links with our twin towns. Primarily, Bassetlaw links with Garbsen and Pfungstadt in Germany and Aurillac in France. We additionally have links with Farmers Branch in Texas USA. read more

Windows 7 is ending!

Microsoft’s End-of-life date for Windows 7 is set for 14th January, 2020, so what should you do if you have a Windows 7 machine? Recent research indicates that some 39% of all PCs are still running Windows 7, so this can be a big issue.
With End-of-life Microsoft will no longer provide any support, particularly with respect to software patches and updates to protect users from malicious attacks. read more

At Bassetlaw Museum in November, you can see two exhibitions.

‘I REMEMBER WHEN…’ EXHIBITION
Thursday 26th September to Saturday 23rd November
Telling stories can enable us to draw links between the past, present and future and bring to life the human presence behind any object. This exhibition is curated by Bassetlaw residents, who worked collaboratively with museum staff towards creating displays showcasing their own objects and revealing heart-touching, surprising and powerful stories. ‘I remember when…’ is the culmination of the Stories and Objects project run by Nottingham Trent University. read more

Feast of Christmas music

North Notts Chamber Choir

Celebrate the run up to Christmas in traditional style at a concert taking place in Worksop College’s magnificent chapel on Saturday 30th November. North Notts Chamber Choir and the College Chapel Choir will be accompanied throughout the evening by the Mountgarret Concert Orchestra under the direction of Timothy Uglow, Director of Music at Worksop College. read more

The Grove Church Star Festival

Grove Street Methodish Church, Retford

Preparations are well underway for the fourth Star Festival at The Grove Methodist Church. Year on year organisers aim to make the experience better for the many people who attend. This year, as in previous years, they will be raising money for a local charity. The festival will be on Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December and on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th December, from 10.00am to 5.00pm each day. read more

The public tour dates for 2020 of the Famous ‘Robin Hood Express’ Sherwood Forest Archaeology and History Red Bus Tour One Day Tour have been announced. The pick-up is at Nottingham Playhouse at 9.30am on Thursday 28th May, Thursday 9th July and Thursday 27th August, 2020. read more

Mayflower 400 Pilgrims Festival in Retford

Bassetlaw Christian Heritage

Thanks to funding from Arts Council England, Retford will see this year’s Pilgrims Festival Illuminate Lantern Parade travel from outside Wilko, along Carolgate, to the Market Square, starting at 5.30pm on Friday 22nd November. The parade will arrive at St Swithun’s Parish Church at around 6.00pm where there will be a light projection on the outside of the church and an event starting at 6.15pm, including performances by the acclaimed Rhubarb Theatre and the Songbirds choir, followed by the ever-popular ‘400’ photograph in the churchyard and light refreshments afterwards. read more
