The Dukeries Singers

We’ve had a super spring so far with very pleasant weather and swathes of glorious colour in gardens everywhere. Let’s hope that May will be as kind weather-wise and as delightfully floriferous. The Dukeries Singers rehearse every Wednesday evening from 7.30pm to 9.00pm upstairs in the Theatre Refreshment area at the Dukeries Academy, Ollerton. This is best accessed via the Leisure Centre entrance and car park. read more

Inner Wheel Club of Retford

In February, the meeting of the Inner Wheel Club of Retford happened to fall on Valentine’s Day, so it became a ‘Bring A Partner or Friend’ event. Members enjoyed their meal and business was dealt with quickly. It was very nice to welcome visitors to hear the speaker, David Brocklehurst, speak about ‘Medical Detection Dogs and Medical Alert Assistance Dogs’. read more

East Markham WI

East Markham WI’s February meeting was an evening of information, fun and much laughter. After welcoming members and visitors and the usual business, the group welcomed Neil Curtis from Curtis of Lincoln, to tell them about sausage making. He told them that sausages in some form or other had been around since Roman times and that they became known as ‘Bangers’ during the war years because of the poor quality of ingredients and skins, making them burst with a bang when cooked. read more

The next Comedy Club which runs at The Well, Hospital Road, takes place on 1st May and will be featuring 2018 Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Noel James. Also, on the line-up is Gareth Richards and the evening’s host is Andy Kind. read more

Dick Whittington at East Markham

East Markham Village Hall was left echoing to the sound of laughter, applause and enthusiastic audience participation as Markham Players ended their 2019 three-night run in their home venue. The production was ‘Dick Whittington’ — directed by Kev Micklethwaite and Angela Allan — and as the audience made their way home, uttering ‘amazing’, ‘so funny, and ‘the best yet’, the cast and crew were already dismantling, collecting and packing all their sets, props and costumes for the mammoth move to Dunham on Trent where two more performances were due to follow the next weekend. read more

Beckingham Bowls Club members enjoyed their Annual Lunch on 17th March at Thonock Park Golf Club and ground staff are working hard to prepare their green for the new season, which starts with Gainsborough Bowls League practice matches against Marton during week commencing 29th April. read more

Eaton Open Gardens

Following on from the great success of Eaton Open Gardens in July 2017, it is proposed to hold a further event on Sunday 7th July 2019 from 2.00pm to 5.00pm. The previous event attracted lots of people who greatly admired the 12 residents’ gardens. The total entry charge will be £3.00 for adults and free for children. read more

Collection point for donations to Mayflower Animal Sanctuary

Retford Cooperative Funeralcare

The Retford branch of Coop Funeralcare, has just set up as a collection point for items to be donated to the Mayflower Animal Sanctuary in Bawtry. The charity takes in homeless dogs and cats and tries to re-home them. Funeral Arranger Tony Kirkham said: “Coop Funeralcare is committed to helping local charities in the area that it covers, and as an owner of three dogs and one cat who were formerly at Mayflower, this cause is very dear to my heart personally.” read more
