The October meeting of East Markham WI saw members making initial plans for the Group Carol Service and their Christmas Party before listening to our speaker for the evening, Sue Floyd. Sue’s talk title was ‘Don’t Ask the Price, It’s a Penny’. read more

Retford U3A

Now in its ninth year, the Retford branch of the U3A has a membership of over 500 people. There are around 50 interest groups and new members often join the U3A, specifically to join just one group. There is a full general U3A meeting, held once a month, at the Well Baptist Church, Retford, on the fourth Thursday of the month. read more

The Wednesday Group

The Wednesday Group

By the time you read this, the Wednesday Group will have been enjoying the festive season for some time. Towards the end of November members shall all go the tea dance at the town hall. This has become a much-loved annual event which, for the second year running, has been organised by the British Legion (Retford and District Branch) and its wonderful workers. The group’s members are really looking forward to it and to dancing to a real band again. read more

Retford Rotary Club Art Competition

For several years, Retford Rotary has organised a highly successful and popular art competition, promoted by the Rotary Club of Retford in collaboration with the Retford Hub, where it will be exhibited. The display of all the artwork is colourful and uplifting, and the children have great delight in seeing their work in a professional gallery. read more

Santa visits RSPCA

RSPCA Doncaster and Rotherham

Santa Claus is coming to town on Sunday 16th December! Come and visit him at the RSPCA South Yorkshire Animal Centre, Great North Road, Bawtry, and get involved with the festive cheer. There is a performance by a very special Christmas choir and lots of mince pies at the ready; it’s sure to be fun for the whole family. Join us from 12.00pm to 3.00pm, for refreshments, stalls and a tombola; all of which help to raise vital funds for the care and treatment of local animals. read more

A Christmas Carol

TaylorMade Productions is a group of local actors who perform at The Acorn Theatre in Worksop. Their last Christmas show ‘Flint Street Nativity’ received many plaudits with critics and audiences alike. The group prides itself in bringing entertaining drama to the area. read more

Action Centre awarded £150,000 after their innovative services impress major UK funder

Bassetlaw Action Centre

Bassetlaw Action Centre, which promotes the independence of older and vulnerable people has been awarded £150,000 from one of the UK’s largest charitable funders. The funding will enable the charity to purchase a building. The Garfield Weston Foundation says small community charities are rising to the challenge of facing unprecedented demand for their services by being proactive and innovative. read more

Ryton Chorale

Ryton Chorale

Ryton Chorale’s Christmas concert will be on Monday 17th December, in Worksop Priory Church, at 7.00pm. Worksop Youth Choir will be joining Ryton Chorale for a performance of Wassail by Alexander L’Estrange. It is a recently composed work of folk inspired Christmas songs for the festive season and includes well known carols. read more
