The Retford and District Historical and Archaeological Society’s new season could not have got off to a better start. The group has welcomed some new members and visitors, and it was nice to see some younger people attend the October meeting. The club needs new members and welcome all ages so come along and pay us a visit and make some new friends. read more

Ryton Chorale will sing Christmas music in the beautiful interior of Hodsock Priory by kind permission of the Buchanan family on 11th December. The event starts at 7.00pm for 7.30pm and includes complementary mulled wine and canapés and an invitation to join in with well-known carols. read more

On Wednesday 11th October, Retford Ladies Probus Club members welcomed speaker Pat Osborne, who gave a fascinating insight into the life of writer Catherine Cookson. Born into abject poverty in 1906, Catherine probably did for the North East what Dickens did for London in presenting an accurate portrayal of her times through thinly veiled characters. read more

Trudy, from Hollybeck Garden Centre near Southwell, treated the group to an informative and entertaining evening and impressed her audience with her wealth of horticultural knowledge and her enthusiasm for plants and planting. read more
