Retford Men’s Probus Club
Retford Men’s Probus Club has been running since 1971. Their meetings take place at the Westhill Community Centre, Ordsall at 10.00am every other Friday. If you would like to go along to one of their meetings, please see www.retfordmensprobusclub.org.uk.
For those new to the idea of Probus, the name is an acronym for Professional Businessmen (and of course we must not forget the women).
January was an interesting month, with two speakers who were in ‘show business’. Colin Bower spent many years working in both radio and television and told many amusing anecdotes about ‘The Business’. Vince Eager was in a rock and roll band in the early 1960s and also spent 14 years as a cruise director on American ships.
February looks interesting as well, with talks on ‘The Pilgrim Fathers’, given by Chris Daniels, and ‘Velocipedes’, by Rosemary Beney.
On 22nd March, members are going to the Grimsby Fish Museum. They are leaving Kettlewells’ yard at 9.00am, aiming to arrive at 10.30am. They will then be split into two groups. The first will visit the Trawler, and be shown over her, and the second group will be shown around the museum. They then change over after an hour or so, and around 1.00pm, they will drive to Cleethorpes for a fish and chip sit down meal. Guy now needs to collect the £15.00 per person fee, as the club have to pay both Kettlewells and the museum, prior to the visit.
President Geoff Gadie and secretary Dennis Beevers have both put in an enormous amount of work to arrange and organise this trip, so we as members should give them both the support their efforts deserve, and make the trip as enjoyable to all as they can.
