Explore Worksop’s history with two heritage events at Worksop Library. On Wednesday 9th January it’s Worksop History Day. Drop in to this free local history event from 10.00am to 2.00pm, where library staff will be on hand to help with Worksop-related enquiries and show you old photos, maps and hidden gems from the library’s collection. You can also:

  • Share Bridge Street memories with Worksop Townscape Heritage Officer Jane Harrison
  • Bring along your own local photos
  • Find out about Mr Straw’s House and the Straws’ Bridge Street shop
  • Chat to members of Worksop Historical Society
  • Get advice about tracing your ancestors
  • Browse local history books for sale

Then on 16th January from 2.00pm to 3.00pm, join Bassetlaw District Council Conservation Officer, Michael Tagg, for a brief historic tour talk of Bridge Street in Worksop. This includes the town’s medieval origins, post-medieval timber-framed buildings, the construction of sub-cellars and tunnels through the sandstone in the 17th and 18th centuries, and later stone and brick buildings right up to the present day. Tickets for this talk cost £3.00 — please purchase in advance from Worksop Library on 01623 677200 or go to the What’s On section of the Inspire website to book online, www.inspireculture.org.uk.
