The well-respected Lincolnshire Artists’ Society makes a welcome return to Doddington Hall, with their exhibition ‘Art in the Barn’ from Friday 24th May to Sunday 9th June. Featuring paintings and sculptural art by members, many artworks are for sale. read more

Gainsborough and District Flower Club

Gainsborough and District Flower Club meet on the fourth Thursday of every month, at the Blues Club, North Street, Gainsborough DN21 2HU, start time 7.15pm. They are affiliated to NAFAS, but you don’t have to be a flower arranger to join them. They enjoy flower demonstrations by national demonstrators, workshops, social events and trips out. read more

Rampton Hospital volunteering opportunities

At Rampton Hospital they welcome new enthusiastic volunteers to visit patients who have very little or no contact with friends or family. They are continually striving to recruit more people of varied ethnicities and backgrounds.

On Monday 18th March, members of Beckingham Gardeners’ Club and visitors took a photographic trip around the Scottish Highlands and Isles, with Chris and Geoff Trinder. Geoff is passionate about his photography and showed many stunning photographs of lots of the local plants and wildlife. read more

St Barnabas Hospice are delighted to once again be hosting a Cream Tea and Plant Sale on Sunday 2nd June, from 1.30pm to 4.00pm at their Gainsborough Hospice, on Front Street, Morton (DN21 3AD). This popular afternoon presents a great opportunity for you to go along and choose from an array of beautiful plants in time to get your gardens looking great for summer whilst at the same time enjoying delicious homemade cream teas! Fossdyke Band in Blyton

Following on from the unfortunate cancellation of their performance on 15th December 2018, The Fossdyke Band will be returning to perform at Blyton St Martin’s Church, Church Lane, Blyton on Saturday 18th May, 7.00pm. Gainsborough Branch of The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust

The Gainsborough Branch of The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust will be visiting the Gelder Environmental Reserve, Tillbridge Lane, near Sturton by Stow (LN1 2DS) on Tuesday 21st May, to start at 6.45pm. This is a maturing 13 acre haven beside the River Till. The walk will be led by the reserve’s manager Simon Blaydes. Please wear suitable footwear. read more

District council honours local achievers

Six Misterton residents were nominated for Bassetlaw District Council’s 2019 Achievers Awards. They were presented with their certificates at a ceremony in March. The awards are presented to Bassetlaw people, who are serving the community by their efforts for charity, for individual achievements, for sport or group activities, or to those who have overcome adversity to lead a normal life. read more

Wheatley Local History Society

Wheatley Local History Society

Following a short AGM, Wheatley Local History Society’s speaker on 18th March was Harry Foxley and his subject was East Retford Union Workhouse. He started by putting members in the setting of the workhouse with a cup of gruel for supper in the evening and then to pick up their chamber pots, and retire to their dormitory by 8.30pm and all candles to be extinguished by 9.00pm latest. read more
